WILLIAMSBURG — Fans of Good Shot Judy’s annual Christmas show can bring a piece of the performance home after the group recently released its first Christmas album, titled “A Crooner’s Christmas-Volume 1.”
Having always wanted to record an album, brothers Brett and Jeff Cahoon began recording in 2020.
“We’ve been performing the Christmas shows for 10 years, but this is our first holiday album. I was a little reluctant at first, because our live show is really about performing all these crooner holiday classics and bringing it to life for people on stage. During the recording process, I wasn’t sure if we were going to be able to replicate that feeling we give during the show,” Brett said.
During the recording process, they ultimately made the decision to have a full studio orchestra play alongside them.
“We created a project so big that it seemed impossible for it to ever get it finished,” Brett added. “We’re calling it “A Crooners Christmas-Volume 1,” because we plan on doing another. There are so many songs in the show that we love, and we have plenty of songs from the show that didn’t make the cut for this album, but ones we would love to record in the future,” Jeff said.
To celebrate the release of the new album, the band hosted a listening party on Nov. 16, but fans of the group who couldn’t make the release party can still enjoy the band as they gear up for their run of holiday shows at the Kimball Theatre in December.
Entering their 11th performing season, Good Shot Judy’s “A Crooner Christmas” show is all about bringing the old-time crooner classics of Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Ray Charles and Michael Bublé to life. The 90-minute shows features some of the most beloved arrangements of Christmas songs and truly tries to bring a ton of Christmas spirit.
“I think that our genre of music — big band, swing, jazz — that has a fanbase that are older. When you think about holiday music, those are all things that everyone knows this time of year. It really gives people an opportunity to see this music performed in a way that is high energy, and there is truly something for the entire family,” Jeff said.
From Dec. 10-14, Good Shot Judy will take the stage at the Kimball Theatre for a weekend of shows. Shows on Dec. 10-12 are from 7:30-9:30 p.m., Dec. 13 are at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
