Haus is resilient. He was transferred to Heritage Humane Society from another shelter. He’d been there for some time. We brought him to Williamsburg for a fresh start. We discovered that he is great with other dogs. Haus was an immediate playgroup superstar. But he was heartworm positive. And, once treatment began, playtime could no longer be part of his daily routine. Haus took it in stride. Some dogs get restless or withdrawn without the stress relief of exercise and socialization. But Haus kept his affable disposition throughout.
However, nobody’s perfect. Haus is going to need a family who is willing to work with him on some resource guarding. He doesn’t guard toys, people, or even food. Haus’s weakness is furniture. In the past, Haus has been quite rude to people who try to force him off of a comfy sleeping spot. The shelter can provide you resources, and even connect you with a trainer, to treat this behavior from the get-go. His new family will need to be prepared and be consistent. If you are, he will make you proud.
Haus is an easy dog to love. He makes friends with everyone he meets. And although it’s good to have friends, what he really needs is a family.
