Providence Classical School To Pack 10,000 Meals for Appalachian Children

Kindergarten through 12th grade students of Providence Classical School (PCS) will work together to pack 10,000 meals on November 30th. School families are currently raising funds through personal and corporate sponsorships for this FEED the NEED event. Sponsor donations will cover all the expenses for the “pack-a-thon” as well as enable PCS to purchase improvements for its security system, science lab, and recreation equipment. The school has currently raised $50,000 towards their minimum goal of  $75,000. The community can monitor up to the minute fundraising totals by texting PCS to 71777 or at https://app.mobilecause.com/vf/pcs.

“As a business owner and member of the community with no association to your school, I just want to say, what you’re doing here matters.” said Monica Sigmon of Sigmon Taylor Photography, a corporate sponsor of this FEED the NEED event. To date, fourteen local businesses have committed to be financial partners in this effort.

The food that is packed will be distributed through several public schools in Appalachia.  PCS music teacher, Tim Seaman, who was born in Appalachia and descended from early Scotts-Irish settlers, shared his knowledge with school families and described common living conditions of no electricity and no water. One in three people in Appalachia suffer from hunger. He pointed to education as the means of escape for his family and encouraged PCS families to see these fellow Americans as their “neighbors” and deserving of assistance.

Providence Classical School is the only classical, Christian K-12 school in Williamsburg, Virginia. PCS has brought the rich tradition of classical education enjoyed by our forefathers back to this historic region. PCS offers a back-to-basics education utilizing time-proven classical methods based on the Trivium.
