Virginia Miss Amazing winner is from Poquoson

Ms. Amanda Chandler, 21, was crowned the 2018 Virginia Miss Amazing, Jr. Miss in the state pageant earlier this year. The pageant was held on the weekend of April 15-17 at the Law Enforcement Training Academy, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Virginia Beach Police officers spent the day crafting and escorting the ladies on stage.

Miss. Amazing is a pageant that showcases the abilities of girls and women with Special Needs. It was started in 2011 by Jordan Somer of Omaha, Nebraska.

Four Virginia ladies will represent Virginia. Jorja Correa is the Virginia Preteen. She is 11 years old and has down syndrome. She is from Spencer, Virginia. Her many talents including singing and dancing. She loves to bring joy to those around her.

Axa Melannie Ibarra is the Virginia Teen. She is 18 years old and has cerebral palsy. She is from Virginia Beach and her talents are dancing and singing. She won in 2015 as a Jr. Teen in Los Angeles.

Amanda Brooke Chandler is the Virginia Jr. Miss. She is 21 years old and has Tetrasomy X. Her talent includes playing Steel Drums and singing. She was a runner up in the 2014 pageant in Omaha, Nebraska.

Blake A. Edwards is the Virginia Miss. She is 27 years old and has Down Syndrome. She is from Chesapeake, Virginia and her talent is Praise Dance. She wa 1st runner up in 2017 in Chicago.

Amanda Chandler lives in Poquoson, Virginia with her parents, Tommy and Jaimie Chandler. She has 2 siblings, Stephanie and Vincent Chandler. Her grandmother is Sally Landeck of Jamaica, Virginia.  Amanda volunteers in her community and participates in Polar Plunge yearly to raise money for The Special Olympics. She is a 2016 graduate of Poquoson High School and an avid athlete, artist and a giving person.

Amanda has a quote that sums it all up: “Never let a disability be your inability, we all are able in our own ways.”
