UPDATE Thursday 6 p.m.: Poppy has returned home.

A James City County family is looking for their pet dog after she got out of the backyard Thursday morning.

Poppy the Shih Tzu went missing after she escaped her family’s backyard in the Berkeley’s Green neighborhood around 11:30 a.m., Poppy’s owner Mike Congrove said.

Congrove said his wife went looking for Poppy immediately as the “little” dog headed toward Greensprings Road, but was unable to find her.

The family believes they may have seen an older-model, light blue van stop on Greensprings Road and pick up the dog.

Poppy has a collar with her name and the family’s phone number on it, but they have not yet received any phone calls, he said.

Anyone with information should email Congrove at mscongrove@gmail.com.
