Brynn Davis and Nathan Pecher are to be married Nov. 4, 2017, at The Historic Post Office, Hampton, Va.

Brynn, 25, graduated from Old Dominion University and received a master’s degree December 2016.

Nathan, 28, is employed with Gary Pecher CPA LLC. He currently attends Tidewater Community College.

“Honestly, realizing that I wanted to marry her was kind of easy. The real dilemma was how was I going to do it. I wanted it to be special,” said Nathan. He wanted his proposal to Brynn to be a memorable moment with a unique flair. He thought of about five or six different ideas, and they all seemed mediocre.

It wasn’t until he had a conversation with a buddy of his about camping that the light bulb clicked on. It was the perfect idea. “I would propose to Brynn on my family’s annual camping trip,” said Nathan. When Brynn was younger, her family used to go camping at Kerr Lake located in Southern Virginia. Even more interesting, Nathan’s family used to go camping at the same exact campground. What are the odds? What else could be more perfect?

He started planning the proposal about three months before it happened. First, he met up with her parents to ask for their blessing. Once they gave him the go-ahead, he told them about his idea to propose at the campground. “I wanted the whole family there,” said Nathan. The twist of the proposal was the fact that it was Nathan’s family’s annual camping trip, so to invite her parents was going to be tricky.

He had to make Brynn believe she was inviting her own family without suspecting anything. Nathan had to do some serious finessing. After three months of planning, they made it to the weekend that will forever be the best weekend of their lives.

The couple’s families were together camping at the same campground they had camped 20 years ago. Nathan found the perfect opportunity to propose. He had his sister, who’s a photographer, ready to capture the moment by acting as if she was taking photos of his niece and other sister. Nathan picked a spot overlooking the lake while the sun was setting after a beautiful, cloudless day. “I had my niece go get Brynn to ask her to take photos by the lake,” said Nathan. He watched them from the campsite and followed behind. When he walked up, Brynn saw him, and he asked his sister to take a photo of them for their annual camping picture. Both of them, with their lake-smelling, sun-dried hair standing there looking over the water, he went for it.

Nathan, down on one knee, which was mashing into the red clay of Kerr Lake, looked up to Brynn with the ring in hand, and they both immediately started gushing with tears. She said, “yes, of course,” and it was official. “July 2, 2016, the day the love of my life said yes when I asked her to marry me. Without a doubt, the perfect weekend,” said Nathan.
