Dancing with the Williamsburg Stars is celebrating the success of its seventh installment, which brought in more than $120,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters and Literacy for Life in March.
The dance competition, which took place March 5 at Phi Beta Kappa Hall, featured participants from all walks of life.
Local businesspeople, doctors, community volunteers and educators were all represented among the lineup of participants.
All 12 of the contestants spent time training with a professional dancer before competing in front of a sold-out live audience and panel of judges at the show.
Carrie Hanley, a senior clinical practice consultant with Becton Dickinson Medical Supplies, took home the top prize in the competition, while Shops at Carolina Furniture President Joe Steele, III, was awarded the “Fan Favorite” title for raising the most money of all the contestants – more than $12,000.
This year’s show surpassed all past records for the amount raised, bringing in more than $120,000 to split between Big Brothers Big Sisters and Literacy for Life.
“Our stars not only had incredible dances but they are incredible people,” said Victoria Willems, a member of the DWTWS committee. “We had the pleasure to see them evolve from doctors, landscapers, superintendents, etc., into the most incredible dancers! They are not only talented in their daily jobs, but they are so generous and kind to donate their time and raise funds for these two amazing charities.”
