Yorktown’s eighth annual Cabin Fever Concert Series is kicking off later this month.
The performances, which take place in the Freight Shed at Riverwalk Landing, feature “local musicians in an informal, friendly, and close performance setting,” according to a recent news release from York County.
Audience members will have the opportunity to interact and engage with the musicians throughout each concert in order to learn more about the artists, their inspirations and the messages within their music.
The series’ first show is slated for Jan. 21 and will feature local bluegrass group Runaway String Band– four Williamsburg-area musicians who offer up a mix of traditional and contemporary bluegrass ranging from the 1920s to the present.
The next show, scheduled for Feb. 4, will feature Little Bit of Swing, a group of local musicians from Glen Boswick’s Sounds of Swing Orchestra plus vocalist Jimmy Crank. Audience members will be invited to sing along with this songbook of standards from the 1930s through 1960s, including hits from a variety of genres.
The Jennifer Gammill Jazz Band will finish out the concert series, presenting a smooth, sweet and sultry take on jazz standards. Gammill has appeared in engagements around the state and her vocal style is perfectly suited to the intimate nature of the Freight Shed venue. This show will take place March 3.
Seating for each show will be first come, first served, and no advance tickets or reservations will be offered. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and each concert will begin at 7 p.m. All shows are free and open to the public.
