Kitchen Fire at Patriot Plaza Strip Mall Prompts Evacuations, No Injuries Reported

WILLIAMSBURG— The Williamsburg Fire Department, with assistance from the James City County Fire Department and York County Fire and Life Safety, responded to a reported commercial structure fire in the 3000 block of Richmond Road at Patriot Plaza on Monday, Feb. 23, 2026.

A passerby reported the fire to the Peninsula Regional Emergency Communications Center at 10:14 a.m. Firefighters arrived at 10:18 a.m. and encountered heavy black smoke coming from the rear of a business. Crews entered the building and located an active fire in the kitchen. Firefighters had water on the fire by 10:26 a.m.

Crews conducted primary searches of the affected business and adjacent units. As a precaution, all businesses in the strip mall were evacuated while fire suppression and emergency operations were underway.

The fire was brought under control at approximately 10:52 a.m. Thirty firefighters responded to the scene. No injuries were reported.

The Williamsburg Fire Department’s Community Risk Reduction team is investigating the cause of the fire.

The department also acknowledged assistance from the James City County Fire Department, York County Fire and Life Safety, Peninsula Regional Emergency Communications Center, Williamsburg Police Department, Williamsburg Planning and Codes Compliance, Dominion Energy and Virginia Natural Gas.
