Early Morning Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrests in York County

YORK COUNTY— A traffic stop early Wednesday morning led to the arrest of two Gloucester County residents and the seizure of illegal drugs and firearms, according to the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 12:20 a.m. on Feb. 18, a patrol deputy initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of George Washington Memorial Highway and Rich Road after observing traffic violations. During the stop, deputies developed probable cause to search the vehicle.

Authorities reported finding a large quantity of illegal narcotics, including cocaine, methamphetamine and ecstasy, along with two semi-automatic pistols — a .22-caliber firearm and a 9mm handgun.

Both occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody.

Dalton Lee Taft, 24, of Gloucester County, was charged with conspiracy to distribute illegal narcotics, distribution of a controlled substance, distribution of a Schedule II narcotic and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, all felonies.

Lanette Marie Fleming, 45, also of Gloucester County, was charged with conspiracy to distribute illegal narcotics, distribution of illegal narcotics and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, all felonies.

Both Taft and Fleming are being held at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
