GLOUCESTER — A Lancaster County man is under arrest after an employee was found shot to death at the Tri-River ASAP office in the 3000 block of George Washington Memorial Highway in Gloucester County Thursday.
According to the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 8:41 a.m., the Gloucester County Emergency Communications Center received a call of a deceased male inside the Tri-River ASAP office. The caller reported that they passed another individual leaving the area and provided a description to responding deputies.
The body of 43-year-old Branden Patrick Green was found inside with multiple gunshot wounds by deputies and criminal investigators, the sheriff’s office said.
Between evidence recovered at the scene and witness statements, GCSO said investigators identified 66-year-old Steve A. Curry, of the 200 block of Riverwood Drive in Lancaster County, as the suspect. The investigation determined that Green was known to the suspect and that this was not a random act of violence.
Due to the proximity to local schools and the initial unknown direction of the suspect’s flight, several schools in Gloucester were placed into a secure status, GCSO said.
GCSO contacted the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, which located Curry at his residence at approximately 10:19 a.m. and took him into custody without incident. Additional evidence was recovered at the time of his arrest, according to officials.
Curry was turned over to the custody of Gloucester County investigators and transported to the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office. He has been charged with first-degree murder and using a firearm in the commission of a felony. Additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues, according to officials. He is being held in the Gloucester County Jail without bond.
The Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office thanked its partners in the Virginia State Police Bureau of Field Operations and Bureau of Criminal Investigations, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, the Tidewater Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives for their assistance.
