HAMPTON ROADS — Drive Safe Hampton Roads announced it is sponsoring four 757 Sober Ride opportunities for Halloween.
Over the 2024 Halloween weekends — Oct. 25-27, and Oct. 31–Nov 3 — there were 2,942 crashes, 1,468 traffic-related injuries and 31 fatalities on Virginia’s roadways, according to the Virginia DMV Highway Safety Office. Of those, 193 of those crashes were alcohol related, with 123 injuries and 14 fatalities — 45%.
DSHR is asking those who plan to celebrate to make a plan and arrange a sober ride home using 757 Sober Ride by visiting drivesafehr.org/757-sober-ride.
“Celebrate responsibly by choosing 757 Sober Ride or designating a driver before drinking. Remember, ‘Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving’ and impaired driving crashes and the injuries and deaths associated with them are 100% preventable! Be smart, plan ahead, and use 757 Sober Ride to get home safely. The life you save may be your own, or someone you love,” said Drive Safe Hampton Roads’ Impaired Driving Prevention Chairman Brian Hennessy.
