JAMES CITY COUNTY — A crash involving a motorcycle and a sedan at the intersection of Merrimac Trail and Government Road on April 4 resulted in a fatality.

According to the James City County Police Department, at approximately 11:05 p.m. on April 4, police and fire personnel responded to a report of a crash involving a motorcycle and a sedan. First responders located a motorcyclist with life-threatening injuries, who would be transported by air to VCU Medical Center in Richmond for treatment.

The Department’s Traffic Unit responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for the investigation, police said. Preliminary findings indicate the motorcyclist, who was the sole rider, was traveling westbound on Merrimac Trail when a collision occurred with an Audi A4 sedan. The Audi was attempting to make a left turn onto Government Road from the eastbound Merrimac Trail lane, crossing the westbound lanes in the process.

A juvenile passenger in the Audi sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News for evaluation.

The westbound lanes of Merrimac Trail were closed for approximately two hours while investigators processed the scene and cleared the roadway, police said.

The motorcyclist remained hospitalized over the weekend but succumbed to injuries Monday, according to officials. He has been identified as 43-year-old James Faison III of Williamsburg.

This crash remains under investigation, and the police department is working in consultation with the Williamsburg/James City County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, it said.
