YPSO Arrests Bruton High School Student for Making Threats and Underage Firearm Possession

YORK COUNTY — York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office (YPSO) arrested a Bruton High School student on Dec. 15 after social media posts caused concern for another student.

According to the YPSO, deputies and investigators were made aware of the posts around 12:15 p.m. The 17-year-old student behind the posts included a threat and the image of a handgun.

The student, who did not attend school today, was located and taken into custody at around 2:15 p.m.

He has since been charged with possession of a firearm on school property, threats to shoot or burn at a school, and underage possession of a firearm.

He is currently being held at the Merrimac Juvenile Detention Center on Merrimac Trail awaiting a hearing.

YPSO and York County School Division officials would like to remind the public that they take all reports seriously and investigate them thoroughly. They ask that any threat or concern be reported directly to law enforcement (911).
