WILLIAMSBURG 一 Zoning can feel like something reserved for developers and city planners. But for Williamsburg residents, the rules can affect what happens in their own backyards.
The city is holding a series of free forums with the goal of helping residents understand how zoning impacts their homes and the areas they live in.
Zoning Administrator Heather Markle will host “Zoning Matters” on the first Wednesday of each month from September through December. The free forums will run from 6 to 7 p.m. in Room 128 of the Stryker Center, 412 N. Boundary St.
“Zoning regulations affect everything from what you can build on your property to how trees and signs are managed in our community,” Markle said. “These evenings are designed to make that information accessible. I want residents to feel comfortable asking questions and to leave with a better understanding of how zoning works for them.”
Each session will focus on a specific zoning topic, followed by a question-and-answer period. The Sept. 2 session will cover housing and occupancy, followed by tree regulations on Oct. 7, signs on Nov. 4 and other zoning topics on Dec. 2.
