JAMES CITY COUNTY – James City County has received approval from the Virginia Department of Transportation to install Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras in Interstate 64 work zones.
County officials say the cameras will go up within the month and will share an installation date once it’s set.
Drivers will get a 30-day warning period, from Aug. 14-Sept. 13, during which speeders will receive mailed warnings instead of tickets. Full enforcement begins after that, with a $100 fine for anyone going 10 mph or more over the posted limit.
The cameras will operate only when workers are present in the zone and will come down once construction is finished.
County officials say the goal is to slow drivers down and protect road crews working along the interstate.
