WILLIAMSBURG — Volunteers will collect canned goods and other pantry staples next Saturday during a drive-thru food drive at the Habitat for Humanity Williamsburg ReStore benefiting local families.
Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg is partnering with Grove Christian Outreach Center and Williamsburg House of Mercy to host the “Sleigh Hunger: Christmas in July” food drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 25 at the ReStore, 1303 Jamestown Road.
Residents can donate food by driving through the parking lot and handing donations to volunteers without leaving their vehicles.
All donations will support families served by Grove Christian Outreach Center and Williamsburg House of Mercy throughout the greater Williamsburg area.
“Strong communities are built when neighbors come together to support one another,” said Shauntrice Williams, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg. “While Habitat is best known for building homes, we know it takes more than housing alone for families to thrive.”
Organizers are requesting nonperishable items including canned meats, soups and stews, fruits and vegetables, pasta and sauce, breakfast cereals, ramen, cooking oil, flour, sugar, baking mixes and condiments.
“Our partnership with Habitat for Humanity reflects a shared belief that a safe, stable home is about more than four walls — a house is not truly a home if there isn’t food on the table,” said Katie Patrick, executive director of Grove Christian Outreach Center.
Organizers said donations of any size will help stock local food pantries and support families in need across the region.
