JAMES CITY COUNTY – The future home of the “President’s Head” sculptures may be decided today as the Board of Supervisors considers a rezoning proposal tied to a Croaker Road development that includes an open-air museum for the statues.

One of the proposals seeks to rezone about 276 acres along Croaker Road for a mixed-use development that would include 704 residential units, commercial space, recreational amenities and the open-air museum. The proposal also includes a visitor center and plans to relocate and restore a historic home to serve as the center’s location. The development would be located on 8196, 8212 and 8220 Croaker Road.

Supervisors will also consider the rezoning proposal for the Cardinal Ridge on property owned by the Eastern State Hospital. The application seeks to rezone about 366 acres from public lands to mixed-use zoning. The proposal includes up to 1,006 residential units, up to 162,000 square feet of commercial development and about 40 acres designated for public use.

The Board of Supervisors is set to consider the proposals at 5 p.m. today at the James City County Government Center, where it will hear public comment and vote on the rezoning applications.
