WILLIAMSBURG — Olde Towne Medical & Dental Center, Greater Williamsburg’s healthcare safety net for uninsured and underinsured residents, announced it has launched a Giving Tuesday campaign to raise $150,000 for urgently needed technology upgrades following a ransomware attack in May 2025 that temporarily shut down clinic operations.
OTMDC has provided medical and dental for more than 30 years. The clinic says its 35-member team serves approximately 15,000 patient visits each year, ensuring access to care for those without insurance or the ability to pay for private healthcare for all family members.
The Giving Tuesday campaign, themed “Protect the Care That Protects Our Community,” will fund the replacement of outdated servers, installation of new firewalls, and enhanced cybersecurity protection for all workstations and mobile data units used by clinical staff.
The clinic adds the upgrades will also allow it to connect directly with specialty physicians, Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, and Riverside Doctors’ Hospital Williamsburg, improving coordination of care and patient records safety.
“Our patients deserve the same level of security and efficiency as those using any other healthcare system,” said Aaron Thompson, Executive Director and CEO of OTMDC. “These upgrades will keep our doors open, our data safe, and our care accessible to those who need it most.”
Community members and businesses are encouraged to donate at otmdc.org/donate on or before Giving Tuesday, Dec. 2.
