HISTORIC TRIANGLE — Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools is commemorating the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution by taking part in a series of events promoted by the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission called the Reading Revolution.
According to WJCC Schools, from Oct. 14-17, guest readers — including parents, community members and division leaders — will visit second grade classrooms across the division to read to students about Revolutionary era topics including freedom, democracy, the Constitution or civic principles.
The goal to make books, stories and comprehension part of everyday life for all WJCC Schools students, the division said.
The Reading Revolution is part of a year-long commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary, providing opportunities to engage, educate and inspire Virginians through activities created by the VA250 Commission.
VA250 was established by the Virginia General Assembly in 2020 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, the Revolutionary War, and the Independence of the United States in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
