
WILLIAMSBURG — Ten Sentara hospitals have been recognized for outstanding social responsibility, receiving an “A” grade on the 2025-26 Lown Institute Hospitals Index, according to the hospital network.
In addition, Sentara RMH Medical Center was ranked number one in Virginia for social responsibility, Sentara CarePlex Hospital was ranked number one in Virginia for patient safety, and Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital was ranked number one in Virginia for cost efficiency.
According to Sentara, to calculate social responsibility, the index evaluated more than 50 metrics related to health equity, patient outcomes and value of care. Of roughly 3,500 hospitals nationwide, only 32 percent received an “A” for social responsibility.
The Sentara hospitals that earned the top grade were:
- Sentara Albemarle Medical Center
- Sentara CarePlex Hospital
- Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital
- Sentara Leigh Hospital
- Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital
- Sentara Norfolk General Hospital
- Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center
- Sentara Obici Hospital
- Sentara RMH Medical Center
- Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center
Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center was also among the top five in Virginia for value of care and cost efficiency, it added.
