
HAMPTON ROADS — The Virginia Department of Emergency Management is recognizing Emergency Management Professionals Week June 2-6.
According to VDEM, this annual recognition celebrates the dedicated professionals across the commonwealth who plan for, respond to, and mitigate emergencies, ensuring the safety and resilience of Virginia’s communities.
Emergency management professionals provide the leadership, management, and operational skills necessary to enable their communities, organizations, and agencies to develop emergency plans and procedures, ensure personnel is adequately trained and exercise plans, provide emergency warnings, notifications, and alerts, and acquire resources to protect lives and property, the agency shared.
“Our emergency management professionals work tirelessly behind the scenes to safeguard lives and property every day,” said VDEM State Coordinator John Scrivani. “During this week, we honor their commitment, expertise, and the critical role they play in preparing Virginia for any crisis.”
Emergency Management Professionals Week serves as a reminder of the support made by individuals who work behind the scenes to ensure the safety, security, and resilience of our communities in times of crisis, according to VDEM, adding from natural disasters, large-scale cyber-attacks, public health emergencies and anything in between, these professionals are coordinate preparedness, response, and recovery efforts to safeguard lives and property.
This week honors the service and commitment of emergency management professionals and recognizes their contributions to the lives, health, and safety of all who live, visit, and do business in the commonwealth, it said.
