YORKTOWN — Colonial National Historical Park, in partnership with BikeWalk Williamsburg and Williamsburg Area Bicyclists, is inviting the public to recreate on a seven-mile stretch of the Colonial Parkway on Saturday, May 3.
“We are excited to once again offer this unique opportunity for visitors of all ages to enjoy the parkway by pedal or by foot in a safe and fun way,” said Superintendent Jerri Marr. “We are also grateful for the work BikeWalk Williamsburg and Williamsburg Area Bicyclists have done to make this day happen.”
The Colonial Parkway is a 23-mile scenic roadway stretching from the York River at Yorktown to the James River at Jamestown. It connects Virginia’s historic triangle: Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown, and is used by travelers annually to access and enjoy the area’s natural and cultural beauty, the park service said.
Park staff will close the Parkway to all vehicle access between Highway 199/Kingsport and Route 359 at Jamestown starting at 6 a.m., reopening by 1 p.m.
This section of the historic roadway will be open for running, walking and biking from 7 a.m. until noon, according to the park, adding vehicles will be allowed to access Jamestown Island via Jamestown Road during this time.
Parking will be available at the Jamestown Visitor Center on Jamestown Island and at the Jamestown Settlement, located at 2110 Jamestown Road.
To ride on the Colonial Parkway, all persons age 16 and up must purchase a visitor entrance pass, the park said. This pass provides access to all resources managed by the park and is valid for seven consecutive days. Participants can purchase their pass on-site or on recreation.gov. America the Beautiful passes and Park Annual passes will be honored and available for purchase on site, it added.
The park staff encourages visitors and community members to always recreate responsibly.
