YORK COUNTY — The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office said the body of a man matching the description of a missing person was discovered Tuesday morning on the shoulder of the southbound lane of George Washington Memorial Highway near the Newport News city line.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 8:25 a.m. on Feb. 11, deputies responded to the area for a report of a body that was observed lying face down off the shoulder of the road. A passerby had discovered the body as they were walking in the area, it added.
The Sheriff’s Office said the body matches the description of a Hispanic male who was reported missing in Newport News on Feb. 8 and was last seen leaving Hoss’s Deli at approximately 1 a.m. Hoss’s Deli is located within a short distance from where the body was discovered, it added.
At this time, Sheriff’s Office Investigators said they are working with the Norfolk Medical Examiner’s Office to positively identify this person and determine the cause of death.
