
BUIES CREEK, N.C. — William & Mary men’s basketball fell on the road at Campbell, 96-55, on Thursday night.
Senior Matteus Case scored a game-high 17 points to lead the way for W&M (13-9, 7-2 CAA). He was 11-of-14 from the free throw line. Junior Finn Lally scored in double figures for the second time in his Tribe career with 10 points off the bench, hitting 2-of-3 from the floor, including a 3-pointer, and 5-of-6 at the free throw line.
Campbell (11-11, 6-3 CAA) broke the game open in the first half, holding W&M without a field goal for over nine minutes. During the stretch, the Camels used an extended 26-4 run to seize control.
Eric Van Der Heijden scored eight points during the run, including a pair of 3-pointers. His first stretched the advantage to double-digits, while the second pushed the margin to 23-7 with 7:33 left in the first half.
Jasin Sinani and Nolan Dorsey hit back-to-back 3-pointers to cap the run, extending the Fighting Camels’ margin to 36-10 at the 3:30 mark. Cold shooting plagued the Tribe in the opening half as it shot just 17.4% from the floor.
Campbell maintained its advantage in the final 20 minutes thanks in part to 58.1% shooting in the half, including 7-of-13 from 3 (53.8%). The Camels used an 11-0 run just five minutes into the second frame to put to rest any thoughts of a second-half comeback.
W&M finished the game at just 26% (13-of-50) from the floor, including only 3-of-25 from 3-point range (12%). The Tribe connected on 26-of-37 at the free throw line (70.3%), including 18-of-23 (78.3%) in the second half.
The Camels shot 47.7% (31-of-65) overall and was 14-of-34 (41.2%) from 3. They were also 20-of-22 (90.9%) at the free throw line. Caleb Zurliene led five Camels in double figures with 17 points, while Sinani and Dorsey had 15 points apiece. Van Der Heijden added a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double, and Colby Duggans tallied 13 points.
