NORFOLK — A U.S. Navy sailor assigned to Naval Weapons Station Yorktown will face an Article 32 hearing Thursday for the death of a fellow sailor in an April 2024 incident on the York River, according to the Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Public Affairs.
The sailor, who will remain unnamed until charges have been referred, has been charged with negligent homicide in the death of Master-at-Arms Third Class Lyndon Joel Cosgriff-Flax, as well as making a false official statement and two counts of dereliction of duty.
Cosgriff-Flax was killed during a boating incident on the York River involving one of the installation’s harbor security boats. According to Naval Weapons Station Yorktown public affairs on April 28, 2024, a harbor security boat team assigned to Naval Weapons Station (NWS) Yorktown was conducting security boat training and familiarization when the 22-year-old sailor accidentally fell overboard, resulting in fatal injuries.
The Article 32 hearing will begin Thursday, Jan. 30, at 1 p.m.
