New Year’s Closures Around the Historic Triangle

HISTORIC TRIANGLE — Here is how local offices and services are impacted by the New Year’s holiday.

James City County

According to James City County, offices, facilities, services, libraries and courts will observe the following schedule for the holidays:

County Offices:
Closed Jan. 1.

James City County Recreation Center and Abram Frink Jr. Community Center:
Closed Jan. 1. Closes at 6 p.m., Dec. 31.

Parks:
All County parks are open year-round.

Park Stores and Guest Services Offices:
Closed Jan. 1.

Jolly Pond Road Convenience Center:
Closed Jan. 1.

Tewning Road and Toano Convenience Centers:
Closed Jan. 1.

Garbage Transfer Station:
Closed Jan. 1.

Curbside Recycling: 
The county said there will be a one-day delay Jan. 1. Wednesday’s recycling will be picked up on Thursday, Thursday’s recycling will be picked up on Friday and Friday’s recycling will be picked up on Saturday.

Libraries:
Closed Jan. 1. Closes at 5 p.m., Dec. 31.

Courts:
Closed Dec. 31-Jan. 1.

Williamsburg 

According to the city, offices will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 31, and Wednesday, Jan. 1. This includes all offices in the Municipal Building on Lafayette Street. 

Quarterpath Recreation Center will be closed Jan. 1. On Dec. 31, Quarterpath will be closed until 4:30 p.m., when it will open for scheduled programming. 

Waller Mill Park will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 1. 

The city said for water emergencies after hours, weekends, and holidays, call 757-220-2331. More information can be found at williamsburgva.gov/publicworks. 

Those who need to pay a city bill when offices are closed are encouraged to use the 24-hour bill payment dropbox located at the front of the Municipal Buidling, 401 Lafayette St. Payments can also be made online. Dropbox payments made on Tuesday, Dec. 31, or Wednesday, Jan. 1, will not be posted until Thursday, Jan. 2. 

Garbage and recycling will be collected on their regular schedules. More information can be found at williamsburgva.gov/garbage. 

Residential curbside will be disrupted due to the holidays, the city said. For Dec. 30 (Red Route), collection will begin Monday as normal, pause on Tuesday and Wednesday, and then resume on Thursday and Friday. York County

The following York County offices and services will be impacted by the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

York County Offices, York-Poquoson Social Services, and Waste Management Center Administrative Offices
Closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1

York County Public Libraries
Closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1

York-Poquoson Courts (Circuit, General District, and Juvenile & Domestic Relations District)
Closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1

York/Poquoson Cooperative Extension
Closed Dec. 30, 31 and Jan. 1

Waste Management Operations (citizen drop-off of trash and recycling)
Closed Jan. 1 

VPPSA Compost Facility
Closed Jan. 1 

Garbage and recycling will not be picked up on New Year’s Day, the county said. Collections will be delayed one day until all routes are completed on Saturday.

During the holidays, the county said residents should call the Waste Management Center at 757-890-3780 or visit the website to determine if the facility has reopened.

DMV

All Virginia DMV full-service customer service centers will be closed on Jan. 1 for New Year’s. During the closure, customers can still access more than 50 DMV services online at dmv.virginia.gov.
