JAMES CITY COUNTY — Virginia State Police announced Thursday it is investigating a vehicle crash involving a James City County Police Officer.
According to state police, the James City County Police Department (JCCPD) requested the investigation on Dec. 24.
State police said a preliminary investigation has revealed that at approximately 6 p.m. on Tuesday, a JCCPD officer was traveling eastbound on Route 60 through the Richmond Road intersection in a marked unit when a pick-up truck ran a red light from the left turn lane, cutting in front of the officer.
Not having time to react, the officer’s vehicle T-boned the pick-up truck and a 17-year-old male passenger in the pick-up truck was ejected from the vehicle upon impact, police said.
The 17-year-old suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported from the scene, according to state police. The JCCPD officer also suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the pick-up truck has been identified as Marvin Lima-Ortega. Lima-Ortega was charged with disregarding a traffic light and no operator’s license.
Neither speed nor alcohol were contributing factors in the collision.
