JAMES CITY COUNTY — Frothy Moon Brewhouse has partnered with The Arc of Williamsburg to help feed those in need this holiday season.
Daily between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., community members can drop off items at the brewhouse that will be distributed to local nonprofits Grove Christian Outreach Center and Williamsburg House of Mercy.
The drive began Nov. 15 and four bins of food have already been collected to help serve the need during Thanksgiving.
The drive will end Friday, Dec. 13 with a party at Frothy Moon, during which $1 from every beer sold will be donated back to The Arc’s Aktion Club. Live music and a food truck will also be on-site.
“The Arc’s Aktion Club has been active in our community since 2005. The Kiwanis Club of Williamsburg is our host and Aktion Club is like Key Club in high schools and CKI in colleges. There are Aktion Clubs associated with The Arc all over the United States.
Our clients believe in the value of giving back and performing community service as the mission of Aktion Club,” explained Pam McGregor, Executive Director of The Arc.

McGregor continued, “Frothy Moon has been a delightful partner in promoting our Aktion Club Food Drive during the holiday season to support two other amazing organizations in our community, Grove Christian Outreach and Williamsburg House of Mercy. The Arc has collaborated with these organizations many times over the years and values the work that they do to make our community the special place it is to live, work, and play while being mindful of the needs of others.”
“Recognizing the vast needs of our nonprofit partners, offering our community a way to support so many meaningful causes through one avenue couldn’t be more profound. It especially highlights the opportunity for our dear friends at the Aktion Club to see the fruits of their labors be delivered to the most vulnerable families served by both organizations — Grove Christian Outreach Center and Williamsburg House of Mercy,” stated Katie Patrick, Executive Director of Grove Christian Outreach Center.
Food items of need include:
- canned meats/fruits/vegetables/beans
- pasta
- crackers
- peanut butter
- jelly
- spaghetti sauce
- Hamburger/Tuna Helper
- cereal
- oatmeal
- granola bars
- shelf-stable protein drinks
Additionally, the group is collecting new toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, diapers, wipes, dish soap, laundry soap, shampoo and conditioner.
For every five items brought in to Frothy Moon, you receive a raffle ticket for free rental of one space dome on the brewhouse’s patio. The winner will be announced at the party on Dec. 13.

Liz Buckley, Executive Director for Williamsburg House of Mercy, explained the need for community support, “One in nine Virginians do not have enough money to buy food or make other ends meet. When our community comes together to combat this harsh reality, we as an organization are able to do more to serve our neighbors who are facing this great need. Each week, Williamsburg House of Mercy serves an average of 350 families through our food pantry and for Thanksgiving, distributed 500 turkeys and a box of all the ingredients needed for side dishes to families in need. At this time of year, we try to do even more so children do not have to experience less because their parents are unable to afford what makes the holidays so memorable.”
