‘Sleigh Hunger’ for Local Nonprofits at July 25 Food Drive

Restore Sleigh Hunger

WILLIAMSBURG — Help ‘Sleigh Hunger’ during the Christmas in July drive-thru food drive at the Habitat Williamsburg ReStore on Thursday, July 25 to benefit the food pantry efforts for Grove Christian Outreach Center and Williamsburg House of Mercy.

The drive will take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the parking lot of Habitat ReStore located at 1303 Jamestown Road. where volunteers will be on hand to collect donations.

Santa is known to stop by as well to make sure everyone’s being nice.

“Previous years brought in over 2,000 pounds of donated canned goods to both our missions and these donations come at a critical time,” stated Liz Buckley, Executive Director for Williamsburg House of Mercy.

Buckley continued, “Summertime brings lower donations, but we are met with higher demands to help our neighbors in need. School’s out and children are in need of three meals a day at home vs. the help school lunches would give to alleviate the financial burden of additional meals.”

The following items are the most in need — hot and cold cereal, rice, stuffing, pasta, spaghetti sauce, canned vegetables, canned/cup fruit, canned protein (tuna and chicken), juice, granola bars, crackers and baby food.

The donation goal for this event is to reach 1,500 pounds.

Hunger and the need for food knows no season, so if you cannot make it to the one-day drive, both Grove Christian Outreach and Williamsburg House of Mercy accept donations year-round.

“We are grateful for the generosity of our community who support our neighbors and their children in need,” Buckley said.
