WILLIAMSBURG — The 23rd annual Virginia Peninsula Jewish Film Festival will open its winter series at the Williamsburg Regional Library Theater on Sunday, Jan. 28, with a screening of the film “Exodus 91.”
“Exodus 91” is the first of three films planned for the winter series, according to the festival committee.
“Exodus 91” tells the story of Asher Naim, a North African Jew and an Israeli diplomat who negotiated the successful escape of 15,000 Ethiopian Jews from Ethiopia in 1991 as the country collapsed under famine and war. The feature-length film takes viewers behind the scenes of Operation Solomon, the diplomatic and military mission to bring thousands of Ethiopian Jews to Israel.
The film will be shown at the Williamsburg Regional Library at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 28. The film is free and open to the public. Reservations are not available, and seating is limited to the capacity of the theater.
The Virginia Peninsula Jewish Film Festival is sponsored by Temple Beth El of Williamsburg.
