Ten Questions with Dr. Rick Campana

HISTORIC TRIANGLE — “Ten Questions with” is a series that allows readers to get to know local business leaders, volunteers and community members in the Historic Triangle.

This week, meet Dr. Rick Campana.

What is your job title and description? 

Executive director for my nonprofit 501C called Senior Dog Sanctuary of Virginia, which is the funding arm for Dog Rescue Flights that works to save shelter dogs and fly them to loving families and sanctuaries.

Who do you interact/work with on a regular basis?

Kill shelter staff in North Carolina who help arrange adoptions and transport to sanctuaries or non-kill shelters.

How do you/your organization interact with the local community?

We work with other local pilots and dog-loving members of the community.

What is something about your job most people wouldn’t know about?

I am a licensed pilot since 1996.

How do you define success?

Success to me is acting on your passions (my passion is saving rescues, especially those shelter dogs scheduled to be euthanized).

What is your most successful accomplishment to date?

Saving 33 dogs to date who were all scheduled to be euthanized.

How long have you lived/worked in the Historic Triangle?

My family moved to Williamsburg in 1957.

What is your favorite part of being in the Historic Triangle?

The supportive community and the number of dog lovers in Williamsburg.

What do you do for downtime/to relax?

Golf.

What is the next step in your journey?

To advance Dog Rescue Flights and continue our sorties (missions) to save as many rescue dogs from kill shelters as possible.
