HISTORIC TRIANGLE — Part beagle, part foxhound and all attitude, Ferris Bueller (no, not THAT Bueller but, definitely named after the ’80s icon) is a one-year-old pup who loves to head out on adventures and explore new places and meet people.
With the stretch of hot August days, Ferris went in search of somewhere to find something cool. And, nothing is cooler than ice cream!
In Toano, off Richmond Road, sits the historic Wilkinson House and a beautiful flower field where we saw a sign that promised what we were after,
Ice Cream at the Toano Flower Field. What could be more perfect?
Owned by siblings Theresa Olech, Susan Tyler and John Hull, who grew up in the area, the ice cream shop and pick-your-own flower field opened in July.
Both the shop, the patio and field are dog friendly, however, Ferris wants to remind everyone to be respectful of others when out in public spaces; keep your dog on a leash and clean up any “accidents”.
Waffle cones are made fresh daily, hand-scooped Tillamook ice cream with toppings and expresso drinks are worth the drive to support a local business.
Guests can also pick their own bouquets, one-of-a-kind bouquets, or drop in and purchase a freshly pre-gathered one. Ferris was gifted a sweet flower “crown” that he proudly wore the rest of the day.
Depending on the day you may meet Strawberry, the cow that inspired the shop’s logo, or one of the animals in the new petting farm.
This fall, Olech said they have plans to add pumpkins, hot chocolate, and hope to have flower craft classes too.
Hours vary seasonally, so be sure to check out the shop’s
Facebook page for up-to-date information.
Happen to spot Ferris out on an adventure? Come say hello! If you have a dog-friendly suggestion you would like Ferris to consider covering or visiting, please email his mom. Hounds are not very good at responding.
