RICHMOND — William & Mary sophomore defender Nora Green-Orset was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week to kick of the 2023 season, the league announced on Monday.
Green-Orset scored a goal in the Tribe’s win over Temple and, from her center back position, led a Green and Gold defense that posted back-to-back shutouts during the opening weekend. It marked the first time the Tribe recorded two-straight clean sheets to start a season since 2011.
The Arlington, Va., native played 176 of 180 minutes at the center back position for the Tribe. She netted her first career goal, heading home a corner kick in the 74th minute of W&M’s 4-0 season-opening win over Temple.
After opening the season with a win at Temple, the Tribe drew Saint Joseph’s, 0-0, on Sunday. W&M is unbeaten in its first two matches for the first time since 2017. The Tribe closes out its three-match, season-opening road swing at Richmond on Thursday, Aug. 24. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. from President’s Field at River Road in Richmond, and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
