YORK COUNTY — In the wake of surging COVID-19 infection rates, York County School Division (YCSD) officials are confident in the division’s COVID-19 mitigation strategies. However, the high transmission numbers are still impacting both staff and student attendance.
The YCSD newsletter, “YCSDigest” in the issue released on Jan. 6 stated:
“While the division believes students benefit most from in-person learning and belong in schools, these attendance rates are not sustainable. During Tuesday’s school closures, our staff worked to prepare for potential shifts to virtual learning. While we have not yet shifted any classes or schools, if we continue to experience the same level or higher absentee rates, we will be forced to adjust course.”
The statement went on to say that no decision has been made in regards to shifting from in-person classes to virtual learning. It did state, though, that all YCSD families should have a plan in place to support learning at home.
