Leaf Collection Information for Area Municipalities

(Stephanie Sabin/WYDaily)

HISTORIC TRIANGLE — Leaves are falling and local districts have released leaf collection information.

CITY OF WILLIAMSBURG

Between November and January, City of Williamsburg residents can rake loose leaves to the curb for free collection on select weeks.

The city is divided into two collection routes, Red and Blue.

Each route will have five collection weeks, starting the week of Monday, Nov. 4, for those on the Red Route and Tuesday, Nov. 12, for those on the Blue Route.

Collection on each route will occur every other week.

Leaves must be raked to the curb or road edge — not in the street or in a drainage way — by 7 a.m. on the first day of any collection week.

Each street on each route will be collected only once during the collection week.

The city offers the following guidelines:

  • Place leaf piles in an open area for easy vacuum truck access. Leaf piles behind
vehicles, trees, or bushes cannot be picked up.
  • Do not mix sticks or limbs into your leaf piles.
  • In case of rain, crews will pick up on the route where they left off prior to the rain.
  • Bagged leaves can be placed curbside to be collected with garbage on any garbage
    collection day.

There is a 10-bag limit per household per collection day.

Sign up at RECollect for reminders when it is your week for leaf collection. Residents can also find more information about the leaf collection program, including an address lookup tool, online.

This service is for residential areas only and some private streets and neighborhoods do not receive this service.

JAMES CITY COUNTY

(James City County)

Self-Haul

Between Nov. 9 and Jan. 12, James City County residents may drop off leaves free of charge at the Jolly Pond Convenience Center, 1204 Jolly Pond Road, daily between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Residents may bring leaves in clear bags, truck beds, trailers, or containers which allow Convenience Center staff to clearly see the contents are leaves only.

Residents are responsible for unloading leaves into the leaf pile (opening bags and dumping, shoveling leaves from truck bed, etc.).

Leaves from commercial lawn service companies will not be accepted by Convenience Center staff.

Curbside Collection

The county will provide one round of curbside leaf collection. Collection dates are as follows and are determined by voting district.

Voting district information can be found by entering an address into the interactive leaf collection map. Once the address is located on the map, click near your address and your district and dates will appear.

Please note that the schedule has changed from previous years.

Leaves must be in clear bags no larger than lawn or leaf-size (40 gallons or less). Bagged leaves must be left curbside by 8 a.m. on the first day of collection in each district. Each street will be collected one time only.

Bulky materials such as brush and tree limbs cannot be accepted.

(York County)

York County residents who reside on publicly maintained streets or roads can place an unlimited number of clear bags of leaves at the front roadside for collection every other week.

Clear bags can be purchased at local hardware, grocery, and department stores.
