VDOT’s Weekly Hampton Roads Lane Closures Report for April 28 to May 4

HAMPTON ROADS — VDOT’s list of full closures of interstates, ramps, bridges and primary roads, and single-lane closures at the bridge-tunnels the week of April 28 to May 4.

Scheduled closures are subject to change based on weather conditions and other factors.

Bridges and Tunnels

Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, I-64:

  • Single-lane closures eastbound April 29 to May 2 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Single-lane closures westbound May 1 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel, I-664: 

  • Alternating, mobile, single-lane closures southbound April 30 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

James River Bridge, Route 17:

  • Alternating, single-lane closures in both directions April 29 to May 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Alternating, mobile, single-lane closures in both directions May 1-2 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge, Route 17:

  • Alternating, mobile, single-lane closures in both directions April 30 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Elizabeth River Tunnels (Downtown/Midtown Tunnels):

  • Go to Elizabeth River Tunnels for maintenance schedules on the Downtown Tunnel (I-264), Midtown Tunnel (U.S. 58) and MLK Expressway (Route 164).

I-64

I-64, Southside Widening, High Rise Bridge Expansion:

I-64, Hampton Roads Express Lanes:  

Hampton: 

  • Brief, intermittent stoppages in both directions between LaSalle Avenue (exit 265) and the Hampton River Bridge April 29 to May 3 from midnight to 4 a.m.
  • Long-term, continuous single-lane closure on I-64 in both directions, reducing travel lanes from three to two lanes between Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road (exit 267) and LaSalle Avenue (exit 265A), with I-64 west traffic shifted to the I-64 east lanes. View the full traffic alert.

Norfolk:

  • Full closure of the on-ramp to I-64 east from East Little Creek Road April 28 to May 2 from as early as 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Full closure of the on-ramp to I-64 east from Northampton Boulevard April 29 to May 2 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Starting as early as May 2, long-term, full-closure of the on-ramp to I-64 east from Tidewater Drive South, with new left turn at Thole Street to access to I-64 east.
  • Long-term traffic shift toward the inside median on I-64 in both directions between Tidewater Drive and Little Creek Road (exit 276)
  • Long-term, continuous, single-lane closure on the I-64 west on-ramp to I-564 west
  • Long-term, shortened merge area at the northbound Tidewater Drive on-ramp to I-64 west. View the full traffic alert.

Norfolk, Reversible Roadway:

  • Full closure in both directions: 
    • Consecutively from April 26 at 8 p.m. to April 29 at 3 a.m.
    • April 28 to May 2 from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.
    • April 29 to May 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
    • Consecutively from May 3 at 8 p.m. to May 6 at 3 a.m.

 Chesapeake/Norfolk/Virginia Beach: 

  • Express Lane closed eastbound between the I-264 and I-464 interchanges April 28 to May 3 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
