VDOT’s Weekly Hampton Roads Lane Closures Report for April 21-27

HAMPTON ROADS — VDOT’s list of full closures of interstates, ramps, bridges and primary roads, and single-lane closures at the bridge-tunnels the week of April 21-27.

Scheduled closures are subject to change based on weather conditions and other factors.

Bridges and Tunnels

Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel, I-664: 

  • Single-lane closures southbound April 22-25 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

High Rise Bridge, I-64:

  • Alternating, single-lane closures in both directions, including the Express Lanes, April 23 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Berkley Bridge, I-264:

  • Alternating, mobile, single-lane closures:
    • Westbound April 23 from 7-11 p.m.                          
    • Eastbound April 24 from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.
  • Double-lane closures westbound, including full closure of the on-ramp to I-264 west from City Hall Avenue, April 24-25 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

James River Bridge, Route 17:

  • Mobile, single-lane closures southbound April 22 and April 24-26 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Alternating, mobile, single-lane closures in both directions April 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge, Route 17:

  • Intermittent stoppages for test openings in both directions:
    • April 23-25 from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.
    • April 25-26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Elizabeth River Tunnels (Downtown/Midtown Tunnels):

  • Go to Elizabeth River Tunnels for maintenance schedules on the Downtown Tunnel (I-264), Midtown Tunnel (U.S. 58) and MLK Expressway (Route 164).

I-64

I-64, Southside Widening, High Rise Bridge Expansion:

I-64, Hampton Roads Express Lanes:  

Hampton: 

  • Brief, intermittent stoppages in both directions between LaSalle Avenue (exit 265A) and the Hampton River Bridge April 22-26 from midnight to 4 a.m.
  • Full closure of the off-ramp from I-64 east to Rip Rap Road (exit 265C) April 23-25 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Long-term, continuous single-lane closure on I-64 in both directions, reducing travel lanes from three to two lanes between Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road (exit 267) and LaSalle Avenue (exit 265A), with I-64 west traffic shifted to the I-64 east lanes. View the full traffic alert.

Norfolk:

  • Full closure of the on-ramp to I-64 east from Northampton Boulevard April 22-25 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Long-term traffic shift toward the inside median on I-64 in both directions between Tidewater Drive and Little Creek Road (exit 276)
  • Long-term, continuous, single-lane closure on the I-64 west on-ramp to I-564 west
  • Long-term, shortened merge area at the northbound Tidewater Drive on-ramp to I-64 west. View the full traffic alert here.

Norfolk, Reversible Roadway:

  • Full closure in both directions:
    • Consecutively from April 19 at 8 p.m. to April 21 at 8 p.m.
    • April 21-22 from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m.
    • April 22 from as early as 8 p.m. to as late as midnight
    • April 22-24 from 8 p.m.to 3 a.m.
    • April 22-25 from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.
    • April 22-26 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
    • Consecutively from April 26 at 8 p.m. to April 29 at 3 a.m.

Chesapeake/Norfolk/Virginia Beach: 

  • Express Lane closed eastbound between the I-264 and I-464 interchanges:
    • April 19 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.
    • April 21-25 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-564

I-564, Norfolk:

  • Brief, intermittent stoppages:
    • Eastbound consecutively from April 19 at 7 p.m. to April 22 at 1 p.m.
    • Westbound consecutively from April 21-22 from midnight to 4 a.m.
