JAMES CITY COUNTY — Virginia Peninsula Community College (VPCC) said overall enrollment was up during a presentation at James City County’s (JCC) Board of Supervisors March Business meeting.

Todd Estes, Vice President of Workforce Development and Innovation and Joseph Fairchild, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs represented VPCC.

“We are very excited about where we are at the college,” Estes said, beginning the presentation by noting VPCC is experiencing overall enrollment and growth with full-time enrolled students up 7% in Spring 2024.

WJCC Schools have seen a slight increase in dual enrollment students between Fall 2022 and Fall 2023 according to Fairchild.

VPCC is currently expanding its physical footprint with several projects that include the rebuilding of Performing Arts Theater after its roof collapsed in 2021 and a new Student Success and Campus Administration building for the main Hampton campus. A Center for Excellence in Childhood Development and a new Skilled Trades Center in Newport News are also planned.

New academic programs for the college include a new program for licensed practical nursing (LPN) at the Historic Triangle campus starting Fall 2025, as well as a reimagining of the Dental Hygiene Assistant program.

“I have been seeing a lot more outreach by the community college in recent months and I think it’s really impressive and helpful to remind folks that you are out there and the opportunities available,” JCC Board member John McGlennon remarked at the conclusion of the presentation. “The fact that you are putting a lot of effort, especially towards the work force development, is really encouraging.”
