ICYMI: Ten Questions with Santa Claus

HISTORIC TRIANGLE — “Ten Questions with” is a series that allows readers to get to know local business leaders, volunteers and community members in the Historic Triangle.

This week meet the myth, the legend, the jolly man in the red suit himself… Santa Claus!

What is your job title and description?
Santa Claus, but I also am known as St.Nicholas, Santa, Kris Kringle, Babbo Natale in Italy, Ded Morozo in Russia, Santa Kuroshu in Japan, and many more endearing names. My job is the best job in the world — I bring magic and joy to everyone!
Tell us about the team you work with to make so much magic happen?
I work with the elves and my hardworking reindeer. I work closely with the board from Williamsburg Downtown as I set up my workshop at 439 Prince George Street until I leave to deliver presents.
How do you interact with the local community?
I’m always watching to see who’s naughty and who’s nice. I keep track of special requests and then visit everyone on Dec. 24 to deliver their gifts. I also get to enjoy the cookies everyone in the community leaves out for me. If I am out walking and have children come up to me, I always take the time to talk to them.

What is something about your job most people wouldn’t know about?

Taking pictures with all the children, especially on their very first Christmas, is the best part! It’s such a pleasure to spend time with the kids before I head back to the North Pole!
How do you define success?
Success to me isn’t material items, but the smiles on children’s faces, the love created, and the continued belief in the magic of Christmas.
What is your most successful accomplishment to date?
Being able to fulfill children’s wishes and being able to, at times, walk in with their moms or dads who are in the military and have been overseas.
What is your favorite part of being in the Historic Triangle?
Getting to know the history firsthand.
Do you think the kids in the Historic Triangle are more naughty or nice?
I’d say about fifty-fifty, but there’s always time to add more kids to the nice list!
What do you do for downtime/to relax?
Read books and watch TV. But what I love to do the most is spend quality time with Mrs. Claus before we start getting ready for the following Christmas.
What is your next step on your journey?
Continuing the tradition of keeping the magic of Christmas alive and spreading the holiday cheer to all!

Do you want to learn more about your community and the people who live and work in the Historic Triangle? We are looking for people with interesting jobs, super volunteers, or community leaders to showcase. Reach out to let us know if you (or someone you know) would like to be considered for Ten Questions.
