Virginia’s Newest ‘LOVE’ Sign Unveiled in Freedom Park

JAMES CITY COUNTY — A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the unveiling of Virginia’s newest LOVE sign, located in Freedom Park.

Planning for the LOVEwork sign began in early 2022, including a public contest to encourage artwork submissions that incorporated the County’s history, character, and/or lifestyle of James City County (JCC), it said.

The sign was completed in partnership with The Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC), which is charged with promoting the Commonwealth as a premier travel destination by showing all there is to love in a Virginia vacation.

Community members inspired the artwork and Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Jamestown Settlement consulted with JCC on design details, the county said.

Each letter in the Freedom Park sign highlights an aspect of JCC, it explained.
  • The “L” represents the unique Landscape with waterways and wildlife for exploration.
  • The “O” represents the Opportunities for leisure and recreation that contribute to the area’s healthy lifestyle.
  • The “V” highlights the Variety of attractions enjoyed by tourists and the local economy.
  • The “E” encourages all to Explore the county’s rich history and the landmarks that tell its story.

LOVEworks ties into VTC’s “Virginia is for Lovers” brand, and this latest LOVEwork joins the more than 300 communities across the Commonwealth with a life-sized LOVE sign.

Freedom Park is located at 5537 Centerville Road in JCC.

Visitors are encouraged to take photos and share them on social media using the hashtags #LOVEVA and #jccparksrec.
