WILLIAMSBURG — Set your coordinates to Charly’s Airport Restaurant every Friday evening now through October for dinner, live acoustic music and the opportunity to see small planes up close on the runway.
Located at the Williamsburg Jamestown Airport, Charly’s has been a local staple for more than 27 years, with Dan Hausman owning the restaurant for the past seven.
When the weather breaks each spring, Hausman’s lunch destination stays open until 9 p.m. for Friday Night Flights.
“It’s always a long winter and we look forward to having guests out on the patio to enjoy the airport and local musicians,” said Hausman.
This year, Charly’s was able to add a small wine list to its menu, which includes sandwiches made with freshly-baked bread, salads, desserts, and a selection of Virginia craft beers.
On nice Friday evenings, the first-come-first-serve patio fills up quickly, with folks eagerly awaiting the landings and takeoffs of the small planes that fly in and out of the airport while enjoying their meal.
Hausman says customers should also look for Friday Night Flight specials. “We like trying out different entrees, you never know what we may have. Sometimes it may be a simple steak and cheese sandwich, or we may have barbeque chicken.”
The once-secret local restaurant has grown in popularity, in part due to the menu, but also the location, which boasts a family-friendly atmosphere. A large playground sits right off the seated patio which overlooks the airport runway.
“This year, we have seen a lot more tourists coming in,” Hausman continues, “I’ll ask them how they found us and most tell me they just Google local restaurants and find the great reviews our amazing local customers have left. We have wonderful local support.”
Charly’s Airport Restaurant is open for lunch Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Friday Night Flight‘s happen through October from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. with rotating local music.
“We are just a fun local spot,” said Hausman, “Come see us, bring the kids, the grandparents or meet some friends. We would love to have you.”
