Yorktown’s 19th annual Lighted Boat Parade is taking place on Saturday, illuminating the night with holiday spirit.

A dazzling array of local sail, pleasure and work boats decked out in holiday lights will parade up the York River to compete for the “Best in Show” distinction, with the crowd encouraged to cheer on their favorite. Judging of the event will begin at 7 p.m.

Onlookers hoping to start the festivities early can turn out to the waterfront as early as 6 p.m., where they can snag a place to watch the show from and take in some entertainment while they wait.

Guests can enjoy complimentary hot cider served up by Boy Scout Troop 123 of Seaford and a musical performance by the Yorktown Chorale and the Fifes & Drums of Yorktown, all in the glow of a roaring beach bonfire.

Owners of motorboats, sailboats and Chesapeake deadrise working boats are also invited to continue to sign up to participate in the parade up until the day of the show. All registered boaters will receive a Yorktown Lighted Boat Parade vessel pennant and captain’s bag.

Click here to register or call 757-890-4970.

This event is free and open to the public. Onlookers are encouraged to bring flashlights to assist in navigation around the town and waterfront.
