Dream Catcher’s 2015 “Cowboys Uncorked” fundraiser exceeded the organization’s goal by almost 200 percent, raking in $42,600 by the end of the night.
The Toano-based therapeutic riding program provides horseback riding lessons and other horse-related activities each week to children and adults with special needs in Hampton Roads and Richmond areas.
This year’s Cowboys Uncorked took place Nov. 8 at the Williamsburg Winery and event planners set a target of raising $21,950, which they exceeded by more than $20,000.
The fourth annual iteration of the gala included a cowboy fare, line dancing, gunslinger competition, raffles and local celebrity “arrestees” who raised donations to pay their bail.
Sally Derrig brought home the “Most Wanted” award for the arrestee who raised the most bail money, bringing in more than $7,000 for the organization. Other top earners included Leighton “Miss Julia” Strader with $6,450 and The Pilates Center at $5,861.
Dream Catchers will use the money raised to fund the hundreds of classes and events the organization offers each month.
