Del. Monty Mason is hosting his second consecutive art contest for students in the 93rd District.
Mason sent out the challenge to students of all ages in the district, which includes parts of James City County and York County in addition to the City of Williamsburg and a portion of the City of Newport News.
The contest will be broken down into four age-group categories: grades K-3, 4-5, 6-8 and 9-12.
Students are invited to submit oil, acrylic or watercolor paintings, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, pastel, ink or marker drawings, collages, lithograph, silkscreen or block prints, computer-generated art, photographs and mixed media images.
Regardless of medium, all art must be no bigger than 14-by-20 inches.
More than 25 students participated in last year’s contest, and once again the winning artwork in each category will be displayed in the Capitol in Richmond.
Each winning student will also be invited to visit Mason and the legislature to learn more about Virginia government and be recognized on the floor of the General Assembly on Feb. 4, 2016.
“The talent exhibited in the work submitted last year by Peninsula young artists was just incredible,” Del. Mason said. “This year we hope even more students will participate when they learn about the contest.”
The contest opened Sept. 11 and will run through Dec. 11. Winners will be announced by Dec. 18. Artwork can be submitted by email to DelMMason@house.virginia.gov or by mail at 120 Monticello Ave., Suite 102, Williamsburg, VA 23185.
