Petals, Pirates, and Paintings: Celebrating Spring in Historic Yorktown

Spring has sprung in Yorktown! From garden markets and art shows to pirates and
BBQ, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this season.

Several themed Yorktown Market Days are on the horizon in April and May. Our 2026
season kicks off with a twist. This year, visitors can enjoy gardening tips and floral décor
at the rebranded Go Green and Garden Market from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday,
April 11. Special exhibitors—Colonial Beekeepers Association, HR Green Trailer, and
Republic Services Recycling to name a few—will educate guests on the importance of
environmental sustainability.

A new addition this year will be Yorktown Plein Art, where artists will gather to paint scenic views outdoors. In addition, the Yorktown Flower Shoppe will be hosting a flower bouquet demonstration, and kids can make their own bird feeders for the backyard.

For some pomp and circumstance, stop by the Sister Cities French Market, held from 8
a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 18. Local vendors will be serving up macarons, crepes,
baguettes, chocolates, and more as we celebrate our connection to Port-Vendres,
Yorktown’s sister city since 1990. Visitors will also be able to enjoy a French-themed
wine garden and a silent auction.

Guests of all ages are invited to visit the Historic Yorktown Waterfront and Historic Main
Street for a swashbuckling good time at the Pirates Invade Yorktown Weekend from 9
a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, and Sunday, April 26. Landlubbers can stop by several pirate encampments, cast a vote in a pirate trial, and search for treasure hidden
throughout Historic Yorktown. Vendors will be selling pirate-themed “booty” at the
Pirate Invasion Market from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Activities will take place at the
Freight Shed, Historic Main Street, and Riverwalk Landing.

Boot, scoot, and boogie your way down to Riverwalk Landing to sample more than 30
local craft beers, savor some delicious BBQ, and listen to the best country musicians in
Hampton Roads at the Boots, Brews & BBQ Festival from 12 to 6 p.m. on Saturday,
May 2. There will be performances by the Nashville Nights Band, Runnin’ Shine, and
The Fifes & Drums of York Town. Purchase tickets today!

Spend a spring Sunday strolling along the Yorktown Waterfront surrounded by creativity
at every turn at the 13th annual Art at the River Juried Art Show. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
on Sunday, May 3, painters, photographers, potters, jewelers, and other artists will line
the Riverwalk to display their work with the hope of taking home Best in Show and the
People’s Choice Award.

Shop for antiques and upcycled treasures at the Vintage Market/Car Show on Main
Street
from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, at Riverwalk Landing. Up the hill on
Historic Main Street, admire more than a dozen fully restored classic cars and talk to
their owners. As a special treat, The Liberty Dolls will perform on the Riverwalk Landing
Stage, and Evan Young will play classic tunes on Historic Main Street.

For each of these events, the free, air-conditioned (and heated) Yorktown Trolley can
pick you up at several County public parking lots, such as the County Administration
Building, York-Poquoson Courthouse, and York Hall, and deliver you to Riverwalk
Landing or Main Street.
