WILLIAMSBURG — Local Daily Media celebrated the launch of its newest radio station, Cannon Country 107.9FM, with a ribbon cutting on Wednesday, Aug. 28.
Cannon Country 107.9FM specializes in country music from the ’90s through today. The radio station went on air in spring and announced its first DJ, Gideon Dean, earlier this month. Local Daily Media also owns 92.3FM The Tide and WYDaily.
“Cannon Country 107.9FM is a really exciting addition to our operation at Local Daily Media. We’ve had a really warm reception and a lot of excitement from the community on the station’s brand so far. We’re very excited to build out our on-air schedule, launch fun and unique segments, and just get creative with it!” Dean said.
The ribbon cutting was hosted by the Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce. The event also saw the attendance of James City County Board of Supervisors Barbara Null, a member of the Stonehouse District, who expressed her excitement at having a local country station.

“Today, we celebrate more than just a ribbon cutting — we celebrate Local Daily Media’s ongoing commitment to serving our community. The addition of Cannon Country 107.9FM strengthens our ability to inform, entertain, and connect, and we couldn’t be happier to have it joining our other local brands, 92.3FM The Tide, WYDaily.com, and the 30 off Local Store,” said Managing Partner Derek Mason.
“We’re grateful to the Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce for celebrating with us today, and I’d like to thank our incredible staff, leadership team, and our advertisers, listeners and readers for their ongoing dedication to supporting this wonderful community,” he continued.
After the ribbon cutting, attendees were invited to tour the Local Daily Media facility, including the newly completed studio for Cannon Country.
