HAMPTON ROADS — Online shopping titan, Amazon, has announced that it will be expanding operations in Hampton Roads.
On Wednesday, September 1, the company announced that it will continue to invest in the region by launching a Career Center and two delivery stations.
The Career Center will be located at 1989 S. Military Highway in Chesapeake. This center will serve a hiring and orientation hub to serve locations in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Suffolk and Hampton.
Additionally, two delivery stations will be added to Amazon’s roster of Hampton Roads locations. The first one will be 165,000 sq. ft. located in Norfolk at 1400 Sewells Point Rd. and a 111,600 sq. ft. location in Hampton at 223 W. Mercury Rd. In the release, Amazon stated that these two stations will allow for customers to receive their shipments in a much more timely fashion.
Amazon also notes that by opening these three facilities, hundreds of potential jobs will be created. These positions will include full and part-time associate positions, delivery driver opportunities as well as those for Amazon Flex drivers.
The statement says, “Employees are paid at least $15.00 per hour and receive comprehensive benefits, paid time off, up to 20 weeks fully paid parental leave, education and skills training, and opportunities for career growth. ”
In celebration of the new centers, Amazon has made donations to both the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore and Virginia Peninsula Foodbank.
