WILLIAMSBURG — A local florist surprised dozens of community residents with bouquets of flowers in a nationwide campaign to spread joy.
Located at 1303 Jamestown Rd. in Williamsburg, Morrison’s Flowers and Gifts participated in Teleflora’s annual Make Someone Smile Week July 18-24, according to a press release from Morrison’s.
Teleflora is headquartered in Los Angeles and connects customers with a network of florists to facilitate floral deliveries.
40 volunteers with Morrison’s prepared 96 Be Happy Bouquets for delivery to senior living residents and emergency first responders at Edgeworth Park, Williamsburg Landing, Riverside Hospital, and Brookdale. The flowers and supplies for the bouquets were donated by DVFlora, KD & Company and FloraMax Wholesale.
“The annual Make Someone Smile initiative gives our shop and other volunteers the opportunity to give back to local deserving recipients in the greater Williamsburg community,” said Arlene Aitken-Williams, owner of Morrison’s Flowers & Gifts. “It is heartwarming and rewarding to see so many come together to work on the mugs and then to see the recipients receive them.”
Teleflora launched Make Someone Smile Week in 2000, and the charitable event includes growers, floral wholesalers, and family-owned shops across the country.
