Publix opens Wednesday. Here’s what it looks like inside

At long last, Publix will celebrate its grand opening Wednesday morning.

The new store in Monticello Marketplace will be Publix’s first in Greater Williamsburg and the Virginia Peninsula.

Publix has more than 1,100 stores across Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, North and South Carolina and Virginia, with several in and around Richmond.

In 2017 Publix announced plans to move in to the space formerly operated by Martin’s Food Market between TJ Maxx and The Wine Seller.

“The job we do every day- we’re very proud of that, and we take it very seriously,” Publix spokeswoman Kimberly Reynolds said Tuesday to groups touring the new store, including James City County Supervisors. “We go above and beyond in taking care of our customers and treating them like kings and queens…we know you will enjoy your new store, but we ask that you hold us accountable.”

The new store employs about 150 associates, the majority of which are local hires.
